This year we are inviting Hungarians from across the country who\u00a0either grew up in Cleveland or have\u00a0ties from long ago to our Magyar community to come share their memories\u00a0with us and to tell us about their recent\u00a0challenges and successes.\u00a0We are actively planning this year\u2019s\u00a0Congress scheduled for November 29\u00a0through December 1 st at the Cleveland\u00a0Sheraton City Centre Hotel. All of us\u00a0on the planning committee hope that\u00a0you will join us for a stimulating and\u00a0memorable weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Every year at Thanksgiving, the\u00a0Hungarian Association hosts a three\u00a0day Hungarian Congress where topics\u00a0relevant to the international Hungarian\u00a0community are discussed and sometimes debated.\u00a0Our Friday evening cultural program features musicians and performers from around the United States. \u00a0Hungarian youth have a Friday night\u00a0gathering with special programs allowing them to meet and exchange ideas. \u00a0During the three day Congress we host\u00a0an exhibition of artwork by Hungarian\u00a0artists and a book exhibit and sale. We\u00a0are also planning a continuous video\u00a0presentation about Hungarian history,\u00a0religion, and customs.\u00a0Our traditional Saturday evening\u00a0debutante ball and dinner is one of the<br \/>\nmost distinguished highlights of the\u00a0Cleveland Hungarian social calendar.\u00a0Last year one of our most popular\u00a0presentations was given in English by\u00a0John Lauer, President and CEO of\u00a0Oglebay Norton, on the Borsod-Chem\u00a0hostile takeover in Hungary.\u00a0Csaba Csere, editor-in-chief of Car\u00a0&amp; Driver Magazine, gave an inspiring\u00a0talk to our youth members.\u00a0Bishop Endre Gyulay, Bishop of\u00a0Szeged, Hungary, was our featured\u00a0speaker.\u00a0Edith Lauer, the president of the Hungarian-American Coalition, provided\u00a0an account of the plight of Hungarian\u00a0minorities living outside Hungary.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1569\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1569\" style=\"width: 344px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1569 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/hungarianassociation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/A-Titk\u00e1rs\u00e1g-n\u00e9h\u00e1ny-tagja.jpg\" alt=\"A Titk\u00e1rs\u00e1g n\u00e9h\u00e1ny tagja: Lent balr\u00f3l Beodray Ferenc, Cathry Em\u00edlia, Alapi Endr\u00e9n\u00e9. Many excellent speakers\u00a0roused our Magyar spirit.\u00a0Plan now to attend our 50 th Anniversary\u00a0Congress this coming\u00a0Thanksgiving\u00a0weekend \u2013 and\u00a0encourage your\u00a0friends and family\u00a0who have not\u00a0joined us for a while to come and celebrate with us.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Lectures in English About\u00a0Hungarians in America<\/h2>\n<h3><em>Gabriella N\u00e1das<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Cleveland was once regarded as the\u00a0third largest Hungarian city, due to\u00a0the great number of Hungarian immigrants arriving after the turn of\u00a0the century. We would like to\u00a0commemorate this event in a series\u00a0of lectures and exhibits.
