Main theme of the 2010 Congress: <\/em>Can we be Hungarian?<\/p>\n

Dr.<\/strong> P\u00e1l Hatos, <\/strong>head of the Balassi Institute in Hungary, will speak in Hungarian about \u201cThe Good Reputation of Hungarians in the World\u201d <\/strong>and address what needs to be done in the coming decade to maintain this standing.<\/p>\n

Ede Altmann<\/strong>, Hungarian architect, soldier, world traveler, adventurer and explorer, will share with the audience his experiences while working and traveling in the Mideast.<\/p>\n

The Hungarian Association honors Dr. August J. Molnar<\/strong>, Co- Chairman of the Board, American Hungarian Foundation with the \u00c1rp\u00e1d Academy\u2019s Gold Medal.<\/p>\n

Documentary Film Programs<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Hungarian Association presents Director \u00c1rp\u00e1d Sz\u00f6czi’s documentary film entitled “Dracula’s Shadow, The Real Story Behind the Romanian Revolution.”\u00a0<\/strong>His gripping film which won The Best Documentary Producer’s award at the 41st Hungarian Film Week Festival records how one human rights organization and two courageous Canadian journalists helped spark the 1989 overthrow of communism in Romania. The film contains footage of an interview with L\u00e1szl\u00f3 T\u00f6k\u00e9s whose actions sparked the downfall of Ceausescu. The movie will be shown in Hungarian and-or English with subti- tles. Come watch the movie and discover history!<\/em><\/p>\n

Closed viewing of the film \u201cNo Subtitles Necessary – <\/strong>L\u00e1szl\u00f3 <\/strong>& Vilmos<\/strong>.\u201d The film follows the lives of renowned cinematographers Laszlo Kovacs and Vilmos Zsigmond, from escaping the 1956 Soviet invasion of Hungary to the present day. As film students in Hungary, they shot extensive footage of the Russian invasion of Budapest and then subsequently volunteered to smuggle it out of the country.<\/p>\n

Both rose to prominence in the late 60’s and 70’s having shot films such as Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Deliverance, Paper Moon, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. This is the story of a 50 year journey, an intimate portrait of two giants of modern im- age making and their deep bond of brotherhood that transcended every imaginable boundary. Two heroes. One road.<\/p>\n
