He earned his Ph.D. in 2003 from Central European University in Budapest, Hungary with a dissertation titled \u201cKhrushchev versus Kim IL Sung, Soviet-DPRK Relations and the Roots of North Korean Despotism, 1953-1964,\u201d based largely on research in Hungarian archives. He is also the author of Kim Il Sung in the Khrushchev Era: Soviet-DPRK Relations and the Role of North Korean Despotism, 1953-1964, as well as CWIHP Working Paper No. 53, \u201cNorth Korea&#8217;s Efforts to Acquire Nuclear Technology and Nuclear Weapons: Evidence from Russian and Hungarian Archives\u201d (co-author). He is also the author of \u201c\u2019You Have No Political Line of Your Own\u2019: Kim IL Sung and the Soviets, 1953-64,\u201d Cold War International History. His interests cover the modern history of Korea, Vietnam, Mongolia, China and Albania.
